Mayor Bob Barnett has issued a local State of Emergency and mandatory curfew for the Village of Downers Grove from 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 2 until 6 a.m. Wednesday, June 3. The order has been issued out of concern for public safety due to the widespread incidents of vandalism and looting occurring throughout the western suburbs.
The Village is advising all businesses to close by 5:00 p.m. (Downtown businesses are advised to close at 2:00 p.m.) Outdoor displays of merchandise, signage and furniture should be moved indoors. For their safety, all residents are asked to stay home after 8:00 p.m.

June 1, 2020, 4:00 p.m. Community Advisory From The Downers Grove Police
The Village continues to monitor reports of protests and possible criminal activity throughout the western suburbs. The Downers Grove Police Department reminds everyone to please be aware of their surroundings and call 911 if you notice suspicious behavior. An increase in police patrols will continue throughout the community tonight.
June 1, 2020 Approx 2:51 p.m. Village Hall and Civilian Portions of Police Station Closed Today and Tomorrow
Village Hall and civilian portions of the Police Station will be closed for the balance of the day today and tomorrow (June 1st and 2nd). This closure was prompted by concerns of protests at Police Stations. We are taking this step out of an abundance of caution and concern for the safety and well being of all employees and the public.
With this in mind, the June 2nd Village Council meeting is cancelled. The Village will continue to monitor the situation and take further actions as necessary.
May 31, 2020 Approx 10:20 p.m. Police Confirm Looting Incident Details
The Downers Grove Police Department has issued a press release confirming details on the looting incident which occurred earlier today at the Best Buy on Butterfield Road. Also, the Police Department has significantly increased patrols which will continue in the community throughout the night. Residents are advised to please stay inside tonight and to call 9-1-1 to report suspicious activity.

On May 31, 2020, the Downers Grove Police Department responded to a report of looting at the Best Buy located at 1432 Butterfield Road. Like all other communities in the Chicago area there is a risk of looting tonight. The Village strongly recommends that all businesses close immediately. All residents are advised to stay home.
